Short version: we collect your email address if you give it to us, and your order details if you buy the book. We don't sell or share either. You can have both deleted by asking.
We do not collect your name, address, phone number, or payment-card details. We never see your card — the payment processor handles it end to end.
Each is an independent company with its own privacy policy, and each may store data outside Canada — principally in the United States and the European Union. That means your information may be subject to the laws of those countries.
Under Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation we only send commercial email with your express consent. The consent box is never pre-ticked. You confirm by clicking a link in a confirmation email, so nobody can sign you up without access to your inbox.
Every email identifies the sender, carries our mailing address, and has a one-click unsubscribe that keeps working for at least 60 days. We keep a record of when and how you consented, because the law requires us to be able to show it.
Buying the book does not sign you up for marketing. Those are separate consents.
Mailing-list data until you unsubscribe, plus a short period afterwards to honour the unsubscribe. Unconfirmed signups are deleted after 14 days. Order records are kept as long as tax law requires.
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or withdraw consent at any time. Email duncan@youcantreadher.com and we'll action it. No forms.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled it, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
